Side by side comparison with Nature Made Triple Omega

I have been taking Omega-3 since 2011 on the advice of my eye doctor for dry eyes. It noticeably improved my dry eye condition. In this review, I am comparing Nature Made Triple Omega that I have been taking for years with VivaRed Omega-3.One Nature Made Triple Omega soft gel contains♦ Omega-3 434 mg♦ Omega-6 276 mg♦ Omega-9 170 mgtotal of 880 mgVivaRed Omega-3 serving size is one soft gel.♦ EPA 400 mg (EPA is Long-chain omega-3 fatty acids Eicosapentaenoic acid)♦ DHA 300 mg (DHA docosahexaenoic acid)total of 700 mgNote that the supplement also has other fish oils, but my doc told me to aim for around 2000 mg of Omega-3 specifically (not other fish oils), so I am omitting other oils in this comparison. To get close to 2000 mg of Omega-3, I need to double the manufacturer’s recommended dose. Now, the price comparison per one soft gel. When I write this review, Nature Made Triple Omega is 150 gel caps priced at $14.99 (10 cents per capsule and you need two for a daily dose).VivaRed Omega 120 gels are $24.83 (21 cents per capsule). Since I need to double the dose, the price is 42 cents per day. After using VivaRed Omega for a couple of weeks, I found it as effective as Nature Made Triple Omega. However, in the price comparison, it is at a disadvantage.Ali Julia review

Plain ol’ fish oil. Slightly harder to swallow.

The contents of Viva Red Fish oil seem much the same as the other fish oil I’ve tried. At least, the ingredients on the labels match up.The capsule holding the oil is different. Not as clear as other capsules I’ve had. Much more rigid. The stiffer capsule means it’s a LITTLE bit harder to swallow. But not harder enough to be important. It’s ok.

A solid performer, just don’t pierce it!

I’m trying a keto diet, so healthy fats and oils are an integral part of that. The diet can be a bit inflammatory so I got these pills to help with that. Some thoughts:What I Like:- No fishy taste. If taken as directed, they have no flavor at all.- Company follows GMP. I’m in agriculture, so I’m familiar with the Good Manufacturing Practices standards, and they are important.- All fat. No starchy fillers or adjuvants.- Contents were indeed fish oil. See below. What I found Lacking.- Don’t open them up!!!! I sliced one open for this review and I am 1000 times sorry I did. There was a very strong fish odor that assaulted the senses and soaked into everything. My hands, the wood on my table, everything. It wasn’t rancid or bad smelling, just terribly strong.- Very large pills. In order to secure the fish scent, the pills have a very thick coating, which makes them large and hard to swallow.Overall I like these pills, although I can’t say they are having any effect. It’s no fault of their part; I’ve just changed so many things in my diet that I can’t pinpoint any one source. Still, I don’t feel any worse!

    Slightly Odd Taste

These seem to be comparable in effect to other Omega-3 supplements I’ve taken, but the size of the pills are rather large, and the coating has a slightly odd taste. It’s not fishy tasting or smelling at all, but reminiscent of a slightly bitter tasting raisinet candy. I personally have no trouble at all with larger pills, nor do I find the taste to be that unpleasant, but just be aware that if you have an issue with either of those qualities you might not like this.

    Hub’s Dr recommended 3000 mg daily E

I got these because they’re easier to swallow for a bigger type pill and no “backwash” later! Besides the heart health benefit, the additional EPA/DHA are supposed to help w/joints so that is added plus. Recommended as 1-2 daily with food.

    No fish burps

A moderate 1000mg dose of Omega-3’s via fish oil (400mg EPA, 300mg DHA). Capsules are large-ish but smooth and go down well. Enteric coating to help pass through the stomach – and avoid fish burps. Source of fish is not specified and therefore will possibly not conform to a kosher diet (a problem for me). Otherwise I see no issues here. Made in USA. GMP seal.

    Easy-to-swallow potent fish oil capsules

I am not a physician or a dietitian but I’ve taken nutritional supplements all my life, performing nutritional maintenance on my body machine. In my experience fish oil nutritional supplements promote calmer clearer thinking. Upon delivery the vivid red packaging is daunting but that’s the plastic jar; the contained fish oil capsules are not artificially colored. And these capsules are potent: the bottle of 120 capsules is a 4-month supply with one capsule (the recommended daily serving) containing 400 mg EPA and 300 mg DHA (the active ingredients); that’s a higher EPA / DHA dosage than provided by two capsules of some vegan-friendly fish oil supplements. The hard capsules are somewhat large but are easy-to-swallow; the capsules’ enteric coating avoids fishy taste and avoids delayed “fish burp”.

    Works well

Great product! I take one or two every day and have had no unpleasant burps. These seem well made and they are easy for me to swallow even though they are larger pills. Happy with this product!

  9. R. ODonnell

    Nice potency

Last time I bought omega three fish oil at the store, I made sure to get the most potent they had – two capsules for a total of 720mg of EPA/DHA. These VivaRed have 700mg in just one capsule. So while they are a bit more expensive, I only have to take half as much. They also say ‘WITH ENTERIC COATING’ on the label, which means ‘occurring in the intestines.’ (in case you were wondering)

  10. Miya

    Great for daily use!

I use this daily for inflammation and heart health! This does not leave a fishy taste, or burping sensation afterwards! Its a very high dose of fish oil and it doesn’t cause any stomach pain or discomfort!

  11. Blueberry Smiles

    Just right for me

I’m so glad that these ingredients actually lists in detail what it is composed of. It lists what kind of gelatin is used as well as the type of glycerin and the variety of fish. These key factors are very important to me because I avoid pork ingredients and only eat certain types of fish. It’s a bit challenging for me to find a suitable fish oil supplement with all of these components in place. I’m so grateful for these supplements. The capsules are a bit larger than the standard capsules, but it’s no prior me to take. If you struggle with swallowing larger capsules then this supplement may not be a good fit for you.

    Fine Quality Fish Oul

These are fine quality fish oil capsules that go down easily, have no smell, and no taste. In addition there is no repeat burping of fish oil. I highly recommend these capsules for heart health!

  13. John Charles

    High quality

I’ve been taking fish oil for years. These pills are easy to swallow, have a coating that prevents them from dissolving in the stomach, and thus have no aftertaste. They have a good quality of EPA DHA as compared to others on the market. They’re a good value, too.

  14. David Chan

Thick capsules, doesnt leave fish breath smell

Been adding fish oil supplements as a daily part of my dietary needs and got this one. There is a good amount of pills in this bottle. One big thing I noticed is the lack of a fishy smell when taking this pill and then in the following hours after that, no fish breath smell, big plus! The pill coating is very different than other omega 3 pills I have taken in the past. It is very rigid, not flexible like others I have taken. Just be aware of that. For me it was easy to swallow, but others might have issues.Make sure the dosage is to your needs. This one is 1000mg and once daily for me. I am still pretty young, so that is enough for me.Overall pleased with this

    Good product

Frankly, it’s almost impossible to properly review a supplement. All I know is that this combo of omega 3’s are great for the illness I have, Ehler Dahlos syndrome. Is this working? It’s not a miracle drug, so I really can’t tell. It hasn’t hurt me is all I know for sure.

400 mg EPA and 300 mg DHA per softgel

I take omega 3 as a nutritional supplement. For myself I believe this to be a good cardiovascular supplement. I like that this is 1 softgel per serving, and the nutritional information tells you what you get in one. So many others say 2 softgels per serving and you can find on a second look that you are only getting half the fish oil supplement you thought you were getting. Not a problem with this stuff, this is a good value.I take this on an empty stomach in the morning, no GI upset, no aftertaste, not hard to swallow. Overall am happy with these.I did receive this supplement free of charge and this is a fair and honest review.

VivaRed Mega EPA/DHA, Omega 3, Fish Oil Supplement

For the past two decades I’ve taken Omega 3’s as a way to help keep my blood pressure at a decent level and to make sure I’m getting the fish oil I may not normally get on a daily/weekly basis. There are countless Omega 3 supplements you can take to get the recommended amounts, so it comes down to (1) product quality, (2) brand reputation, and (3) made in the USA. All of these taken together determine whether or not I’d be a repeat customer.VivaRed’s Mega EPA/DHA Omega Fish Oil is derived from anchovies, one of the most common fish used for Omega 3 fish oil. You’ll also find sardines, pollack, and mackerel added to others; but with anchovy oil, you’ll do just fine. The amount of EPA (400mg) and DHA (300mg) compounds is average for what you’d find in most Omega products.I like that these come with the enteric coating, so that the capsule digests farther down your digesting tract where you’ll get better absorption. It also helps prevent the dreaded “fish burps” you can get from other products. As for the three basic requirements I mentioned:Product quality – VivaRed products are Good Manufacturing compliant, Non GMO and partake in socially responsible methods when manufacturing.Brand reputation – I can’t find too much on VivaRed, but they fall under Nutrared Supplements, LLC, which incorporated in 2016 in Utah. VivaRed Wellness registered their trademark in mid-2020, and has a site out there, so I’m assuming they’re trying to establish themselves.Made in the USA – Yes, apparently in Utah. I’m not really sure.Overall 3 and ½ stars. Ideally, I’d like to know more about VivaRed’s holding company, Nutrared Supplements, LLC, to determine where in the USA the product is made. Info is somewhat scarce on them.

    VivaRed Mega EPA/DHA

Fantastic fish oil supplement. The pills are average size and easy to swallow. This fish oil supplement has a good amount of DHA/EPA and the non-fishy burp aftertaste is greatly appreciated.

    Questionable dosage recommendations

I really like the fact that these are enteric coated, as a nurse I’ve learned how important this is in order to get it past your stomach and into your small intestine where it needs to be absorbed. These are typical fish oil pills, same size as most maybe a tiny bit smaller. Easy to go down though, I have not had a problem once. No burps or fishy taste. Good price. My only “complaint” is that these arent the best dosage. The previous brand I have been using is 2000mg fish oil and higher DHA and such, and recommends 2 pills a day. Where these are 1000mg and only recommend 1. Where is this recommendation coming from and what is it based on if there is not a guideline set for it?

  20. Horasus

    Not fishy

Yes I can confirm that this fish oil supplement has absolutely no fishy aftertaste and not makes upset stomach. Not a bad value for 120 ( all accounted for ) good dose of omega-3, easy to swallow enteric coating softgels. Nice and safety sealed bottle, Made in US. I’m reordering and highly recommend it.

    An Ideal Omega 3 Supplement

This is a really good omega-3 formula for many reasons. For one, it is very concentrated and has almost twice the EPA of most formulas, and nearly three times the amount of DHA. The ratio of EPA to DHA is good as well (DHA seems to be the more beneficial acid).Secondly, it contains some vitamin E. I always look for vitamin E because it prevents the fish oil from going rancid over time. Finally, it is enteric coated, so it only dissolves in the intestines, which will prevent any “fish burps,” although that isn’t really an issue with me.And, the price is pretty good for all of this!

  22. BLB

Good product at a good price

So far I am very pleased with this product, definitely no fishy after taste/burps. I am taking 1 capsule daily so this should last me 4 months. I am taking these capsules to help with joint pain, I have hip pain most of the time. I have had no sensitives to this fish oil supplement, no digestive upset. I have fingers crossed this will help my joint pain.

  23. OLT

    Contain soy.

I mention that these contain soy because there are some people who prefer to avoid that as a potential allergen. Of course, fish itself is a potential allergen, but then people with a fish allergy wouldn’t be taking a fish oil supplement, would they?As for whether or not you should take a fish oil supplement, who knows? Lately, studies are telling us to get our nutrients through the foods we eat, not through supplements. I guess you should check with your doctor about whether or not you personally need a supplement. As for this particular fish oil supplement, it seems okay, if a bit low dose compared to others I have taken in the past, so I don’t know why it is called “Mega…” One capsule supplies 1000 mg of fish oil, providing about 400 mg of EPA, and 300 mg of DHA. There is no mention of ALA here at all. The enteric coating helps to keep fishy burps away, and there is bovine gelatin here and vegetable glycerin.

    Good source of EPA/DHA

Your browser does not support HTML5 video.

There is actually quite a bit of EPA and DHA in this supplement. I’m quite impressed.

  25. Kindle Customer

Great value and works well good for people with sensitive stomachs

Taking omega3s has really helped. I noticed I don’t have as much pain or inflammation. The trouble is that fish oil capsules often makes my stomach upset. They are had to swallow and sometimes I get this smelly burping from the fish that makes me feel sick after taking it. I’m happy to report that these capsules take care of all of these issues. These capsules are slimmer so easy to swallow. (They do not make me gag getting them down.) I don’t get that fishy smell afterwards or an upset stomach either. Plus they work as I can tell my body feels less pain in my knees and hands. I am very happy with this product I just wish I knew of it earlier!

    made in USA!

Awesome its so hard to find supplements that are made in the USA. These appear to be top quality and I have no complaints with them. This may sound dumb but I really like the bottle, The fliptop cap is so convenient and easy to use, if you have trouble gripping caps this is perfect for you.

  27. Elle D

Good quality and no fish taste

I have been taking fish oil supplements on and off for years. The VivaRed capsules have an enteric coating and do not taste like fish or irritate my stomach, They are a little big but not hard to swallow. They also provide a decent amount of omega-3 with each capsule. I just started taking them and will add to this review after I finish my first bottle.

  28. JP

    Nothing special

Just like every other fish oil. Good to take, they say, but do you ever notice anything? I don’t. That being said if the price is right, you’ll be happy. The price is the only thing that would get me to buy these over others.
